Twenty Years ago today

20 April 2022

20 years ago today Dr Simon Bourne and Dr Rachel Smith started their first day at ITM Power as the first two employees

The head office was the “Old Cow Shed” at Barnack near Stamford, and their lab was in a basement at Cranfield University where they built ITM Power’s first electrolysers and fuel cells.

In 2002 they had systems which lasted 20 mins, and ran at 2mA/cm2. By 2004 they had longevity of 300 hours, and 90mA/cm2.

Here is an early 100W electrolyser stack from 2004 when ITM Floated on the AIM stock exchange.

Fast-forward 20 years, from a 100W stack to a GW Factory and over 400 strong team developing and building world class electrolyser systems.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey over the last 20 years. Here is to the next 20!
